Standly terms of use
1. Who we are
Standly is made by Akash Gadekar, trading as Synthetic Minds ("we"). By installing or using Standly you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
2. What Standly does
Standly turns a charging phone into an ambient display with a clock, widgets, a photo page and a weather page. It runs as your phone's screen saver, which you switch on once in your phone's settings. Standly is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Apple Inc. "StandBy" is a feature name used by Apple.
3. Plans and payment
- Standly is paid. You start with a free trial, then choose Monthly, Yearly or Lifetime. The price, the trial length and what the price becomes after the trial are shown by Google Play before you confirm.
- Monthly and Yearly renew automatically until you cancel in Google Play's subscription settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep the plan until the end of the period you paid for.
- Lifetime is a one-time purchase. It does not include the Weather page.
- Payments, refunds and trial eligibility are handled by Google Play under its own terms. We cannot refund purchases ourselves.
- We may change prices for new purchases. Google Play tells you before a price change affects your subscription.
4. Permissions and why Standly asks for them
Standly asks only for what each feature needs. You can refuse any of them and still use the rest.
- Photos. The Photos page shows your pictures on the screen while the phone charges. The screen saver runs on its own, with nobody to pick a photo, so Standly needs to read your gallery in the background. Photos are shown on the phone only and are never uploaded.
- Calendar. The Today's events widget and the month calendar read your calendar events so they can show them. Events stay on the phone.
- Location. Weather uses your approximate position. Standly reads your position only while the app is open and sends a rounded version of it (about 10 km) to its weather server. A precise position is used on the phone only, to show a neighbourhood name. You can choose a city by name instead.
- Notification access. If you switch it on in system settings, the Notifications widget shows which apps have notifications, and Now playing shows controls for your listed music apps. Standly only reads. It does not reply to, dismiss or send notifications, and the text of messages is shown only if you turn that option on.
- Internet. Used for weather and, only if you agree, usage statistics.
5. Weather
Weather information comes from a third party and may be wrong or late. Do not use it for decisions that affect safety.
6. Your content
Your photos, calendar, to-do items and notifications belong to you. Standly does not claim any rights to them and does not send them to us.
7. What you may not do
Do not copy, resell or reverse-engineer Standly except as the law allows, and do not use it to break the law or other people's rights.
8. Third-party services
Standly uses Google Play (payments), a weather server run by us on Cloudflare that gets forecasts from WeatherAPI.com, and, only if you agree, Firebase Analytics. Their own terms apply to those services.
9. No warranty, limited liability
Standly is provided as it is. We do not promise it will always work, start on time, or be free of errors; the screen saver depends on your phone's settings. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or lost-profit damages, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for Standly in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Changes and ending
We may update the app and these terms. If a change is material we will say so in the app. You can stop using Standly at any time by uninstalling it. We may stop offering Standly; if we do, we will give notice where we reasonably can.
11. Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Courts in Pune, India have jurisdiction, except where your local consumer law lets you use your local courts. Questions: hello@syntheticminds.in.
